Nikon 5 position Universal Brightfield/Darkfield/DIC Nosepiece Turret, Nomarski, for Optiphot. Includes 4 Nomarksi DIC prisms for 5x, 10x/100x, 20x and 40x objectives. No 60x prism is included, so one prism holder is empty. BD Plan 5x/0.1 210/0, WD=9mm.
BD Plan 10x/0.25 210/0, WD=3mm. BD Plan 20x/0.40 210/0, WD=2.5mm. BD Plan 40x/0.65 210/0, WD=1mm. BD Plan 60x/0.80 210/0, WD=0.35mm.None of the objectives are marked DIC but when tested with crossed polarisers they all work well, giving good, even and consistent extinction. They appear to be strain free and produce identical results in polarisation and DIC to an actual DIC set that I also have. All in good used condition, all lenses clean and clear. The 60x objective was not originally from this set and has minor surface scratches around the sides of the body, as shown.
This has no effect on its performance and the spring tip is working perfectly. M26 thread, for brightfield, darkfield and DIC using BD Plan objectives.
Rotates and clicks into position perfectly. Prism levers have been cleaned and re-greased so all working smoothly. Normally the levers are seized or very stiff as the old grease has dried up. All prisms springs, screws and covers are present.
Was motorised but motor has been removed. Fits any Optiphot 1,2, 66, 88, 100, 200 etc. And rotates normally just like a manual nosepiece.The 10x prism also works with a Nikon BD Plan 100x/0.90 objective (not included), so the 60x could be replaced by a 100x and used with this prism or a 100x objective could be swapped into the 10x spot as needed for DIC use. Final pictures are of a 68000 CPU die. 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 60x in brightfield. 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 60x in darkfield. 5x, 10x, 20x, 40x in DIC.
All taken using this nosepiece + objectives + prisms on a Nikon Optiphot with a 1 sensor camera. No focus stacking was used so the high NA objectives naturally having a much smaller depth of field will show some areas slightly out of focus. Note that for DIC use you also need a polariser and analyser fitted to your vertical illuminator. The DIC effect can be varied by moving the prism lever so I've shown a few examples of the type of effects that can be achieved, with different colours, 3D effect and enhanced surface texture detail.
